Preview from the Past: Ethio Skills

Bekele Matwos, founder of Ethioskills  is the first to:

  • be selected and invited at the world skills competition held at Switzerland.
  • introduce skill competition in Ethiopia.

 

National Skills Competition held at the Addis Ababa Exhibition Center from November 18-19, 2006. This event was a pioneering competition which was undertaken as a model project by Engineering Capacity Building Program (ECBP) partnered with Leading enterprise (currently known as Ethioskills) and Addis Ababa City Government Education Bureau. 

Technical skills raise individuals’ prospects and productivity. As a result of this young skilled become more innovative, competitive and make great contribution. In connection to of this, new methods and strategies have been tried all over the world to upgrade various practical vocational skills. 

WHO WE ARE

Ethio-skills organized vocational skilled based on civil association which target youths. It is established to fight the increasing unemployment among school drops youth and equip them with necessary practical skills for the current job market. This enable them to create viable condition which will encourage them towards job creation rather than job-seeking.

In Ethiopia in the past some year’s adequate attention, time, manpower and other supplies was not properly given to Youth. There were no opportunity enables them to overcome their obstacles, to use their knowledge and skills intelligently, to seize opportunity and to inject the sparks of innovation and creativity. The Ethiopian youth is not benefited enough from vocational Skills that helps to inject dynamism & excitement activities towards self-employment. It also boasts the confidence as a great way to exchange experiences and way of working with other people who are in the same profession. It is equally important to encourage the youth to get involved in the sector, in addition increases the quality of awareness across the board.
